Opening Times and other details updated for 2024

Looks as if the weather is finally settling down in time for the opening of the garden later this week. All details below. There has been much ongoing pruning and planting during the winter months in preparation for 2024. There has also been a good bud set on the main spring flowering genera which bodes well for a colourful early season. We are very much looking forward to welcoming garden visitors again this year.

Garden Entrance

The Loos are located handily beside the garden entrance carpark in a separate small wooden building. They are suitable for disabled visitors. In the entrance there are teas/coffee and light snacks for sale including ice creams. If there is no one about please ring the bell located by the door leading into the garden and someone will assist with entry, buying plants and making teas and any other queries.

Elderly and Disabled

There is plenty of parking within a short walk of the garden entrance. The loos situated next to the car park are equipped with fold down bars and access is on level ground. The Walled Garden, Glasshouse Range and top half of the garden is all accessible to wheelchairs via graded pathways. Please ask if in doubt where the most user-friendly routes are in the garden.

Health and Safety

Please keep children under observation at all times as due to the nature of a mainly woodland garden there are areas of water, uneven banks and some steep drops. All paths are regularly inspected and mown where appropriate. But stout footwear is still advisable especially if the weather has been unsettled. Very occasionally the garden will have to close due to extreme weather such as high winds. The garden was laid out well before modern regulations were invented; therefore we cannot eliminate all health and safety risks. Common sense with regard to handling plants and avoiding physical hazards is a joint responsibility between visitors and ourselves.

Dogs

Dogs are permitted to exercise in the parkland on a lead. When sheep are present please keep dogs well clear especially when lambing. Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed in the main garden but there are plenty of shaded areas in the car park to leave pets while visiting.
